Boy Scout Troop 9

During 1919, our parish was blessed with a dynamic curate, Father John J. Keane. A short time after his arrival, Father Keane convinced parents to give scouting a chance. Hector Richards became the troop’s first Eagle Scout in 1925. Now 104 boys in Troop 9 have achieved Eagle, scouting’s highest award.

Troop 9 Pawcatuck, sponsored by St. Michael Church, is still thriving and still serving youth in the community by preparing them to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Boys ages 11 to 18 are welcome to join. Meetings are held on Wednesdays.

Activities are focused on community service, including placing flags on the graves of our honored veterans in St. Mary and St. Michael cemeteries for Memorial and Veterans Days and an annual food drive, Scouting for Food, for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.

There is no active Cub Scout Pack at St. Michael Church at this time.

For more information on scouting at St. Michael Church, email the Troop or visit the Troop website.

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
